I am moving and so are my tea plants. I will uproot them all and dry their leaves. This will bring me lots of green tea. I will revisit these pages when I am fully ensconced in my new digs.

I have made it a daily habit to drink tea instead of just drinking water. This is because I have just way too much tea and for me to have a cup everyday would leave so much more to be thrown away. You see, I usually make about a liter of tea in order to encourage my sons to also drink tea. Sometimes they drink and sometimes they do not. This situation wastes the tea, to my mind so I have begun drinking tea instead of water.

I then discovered that I do not go to the bathroom as often. Before I took up this habit, I was an avid coffee drinker and I would drink it at all hours. This would also mean that I go the the bathroom often too because I am drinking a lot of liquids. This I do not really mind and just consider a minor annoyance. Ever since I started substituting tea for coffee and water, things have changed dramatically for me that I noticed it.

I have been drinking green tea on a daily basis fo quite a while now and I must say that I can feel some difference in my well-being. I still do the same things everyday, stay seated in front of my computer monitor for hours at a time, no exercise, watch television when working on the computer tires me out, etc.,etc. What I mean to say is that I do not get to walk distances where it would improve my blood circulation or get a bit of sweat going. I get none of those. But what I do is to make a liter of green tea everyday and drink that instead of drinking water or soda or any other kind of drink. Well, I do have a mug of coffee in the morning like i always do before, before I take anything else.

I do no refrigerate my left-over tea from the previous day although i probably should.  There is usually a little more than a cup left over when I wake up in the morning and I drink that after my coffee. This must be a barbaric way of drinking tea. There is no ceremony that I follow. I just drink my tea and large quantities of it. I do not mind drinking it cold and I add nothing to it, just the tea. I do not put sugar or honey or milk in it. I just drink the tea like I would drink water.

I had to harvest. There was just too many of them now and the leaves have started to turn yellow. I had thought that I would let them grow and grow without touching them and see how high they would grow but it seems to me that there is too much sun where they are. These tea plants are not happy plants, I believe. My usual practice is to just snip off the leaf with a pair of scissors. This time I am cutting the stalk which I then place in water until roots grow. Then I plant them in a new plot. My only problem is I am running out of real estate. There is just no more room for them to grow.

I have a solution. I will build a structure made of steel rebars and have two stories on which to plant them. This is only an idea which will have to wait until I have the funds to make the structure. This plan has been with me for a long time now and was born out of lack of space. i do not have enough land to do any serious planting. This is why I came up with the idea of having one plot on top of another supported by steel rebars fashioned nicely so I can have my 2-story planters.

I brought a few cuttings of green tea from Cagayan de Oro City last year and planted them in a small plot near my wall and thus began my love affair with green tea. I had earlier planted a few pots of the plant over at Angel's apartment also in Cagayan de Oro City because she was feeling sickly and I thought it would help her regain her health by drinking green tea every day. I was visiting in Cagayan de Oro City hoping to get something going related to websites. Although nothing much amounted to the business side of things, I was able to get cuttings which eventually allowed me to have enough plants to sustain my green tea drinking everyday. I had not yet begun work on Ching's World which is now my pet preoccupation.

The  following  year I began work on  Ching's World that is, this year. I did not have a clear idea of how this was going to be. I had flirted with the idea of doing it in Rails but i was not successful in that. Ching's World was therefore done in Smalltalk and Seaside which is way cool. I am only using very simple constructs which is prudent considering that I am just starting out.

Boy Cinco said he had a tea plant in his back yard and invited me to take some fresh tea. I was intrigued. What could this plant look like? Maybe I could also plant this in my back yard. The plant was a shrub that grew quite high. So this is a tea plant, I thought. How is it propagated? He told me they just grow everywhere when the rain carries the sees to suitable ground. I helped myself to some seeds and I thought i should have my own tea plants soon. Well, back to the tea boiling in the kettle.

I was never able to get the seeds to grow. Too bad, I did want the plant in my yard so I can drink fresh tea everyday. Ah well, maybe this is not for me, I thought although I was quite disappointed with not being able to succeed with germinating the seeds.

There is a green tea called wachichao which is being marketed in the Philippines. The pamphlet says that it cures many ailments, a claim that very easily comes into conflict with western-style educated doctors who have invested their time in the study of western medicine. The problem is in simplifying the results of drinking green tea. It is well-known that China has a very long history of tea drinking, a habit which is credited with good health and longevity of many Chinese. Taking claims of cures or rehabilitation of weakened bones and muscles due to arthritis and attributing these to the efficacy of green tea can be easily dismissed by those who need scientific proof.
